Asahi Kasei says it has concluded a joint venture (JV) agreement with China National Bluestar, a subsidiary of ChemChina, to build a Xyron modified polyphenylene ether (mPPE) complex in China. The facilities will include plants producing the intermediate 2,6-xylenol and polyphenylene ether (PPE). A final investment decision is subject to detailed evaluation of the project and antitrust clearance. The companies plan to establish the JV in August this year and make a final investment decision by March 2018. The projected capacity for PPE and 2,6 xylenol is 30,000 metric tons/year and for mPPE 20,000 metric tons/year.
